First let&#8217;s try some recipes and then when you get comfortable with it, you can experiment on your own. Let&#8217;s start from simple.<br />
<span id="more-105"></span><br />
INGREDIENTS<br />
2 pounds of potatoes<br />
1/2 cup of milk<br />
2-6 tablespoons of butter<br />
Salt and pepper, to taste</p>
<p>DIRECTIONS<br />
1. Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut it in half, lengthwise.</p>
<p><img src="http://www.tsiken.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mashed_potato2.jpg" alt="mashed_potato2" title="mashed_potato2" width="200" height="150" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-112" /><br />
2. Add the potatoes to a large pot with enough water to cover them. Add a tablespoon of salt.<br />
<img src="http://www.tsiken.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mashed_potato3.jpg" alt="mashed_potato3" title="mashed_potato3" width="200" height="150" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-113" /><br />
3. Bring the water to a boil. Cook until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a knife. 25-30 minutes or so.<br />
<img src="http://www.tsiken.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mashed_potato4.jpg" alt="mashed_potato4" title="mashed_potato4" width="200" height="150" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-114" /><br />
4. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Cook the drained potatoes over low heat for a couple of minutes to evaporate some of the water still in the potato.<br />
<img src="http://www.tsiken.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mashed_potato5.jpg" alt="mashed_potato5" title="mashed_potato5" width="200" height="150" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-115" /><br />
<img src="http://www.tsiken.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/mashed_potato1.jpg" alt="mashed_potato1" title="mashed_potato1" width="250" height="333" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-122" /><br />
5. Remove from heat and mash it until smooth by your method of choice. (I just used a very big fork because I didn&#8217;t have those masher tools. How you mash it depends on how you want the texture to be.)</p>
<p>6. Blend the butter while it&#8217;s still hot. Add the milk, salt and pepper to taste. Mix.<br />
You can garnish your mashed potatoes with some chopped parsley if you like.</p>
<p>Enjoy!</p>
